Risk Management Course Options

Course Options

  Odyssey offers a variety of courses for clinicians and administrators who wish to reduce the risk of malpractice. Courses fall into two basic categories:

  1) courses and workshops focused on reducing malpractice risk

 2) courses and workshops to enhance the ability of individuals to present themselves effectively at deposition and on the witness stand once sued.

Overall course objectives include:

  • understand the general climate in which malpractice occurs
  • understand the system/institutional elements that contribute to malpractice
  • learn the triggers that cause patients to initiate a malpractice suit
  • understand the role of the patient-physician relationship in increasing or decreasing the risk of malpractice
  • learn that apologies can and should be given when adverse events occur
  • how to give bad news to patients and apologize well without increasing malpractice risk
  • get hands-on, practical training in how to improve communication between patients and physicians in order to build strong relationships, improve patient care, and reduce malpractice
  • discover how alliances between clinicians and administration can make patients happier and healthier, while at the same time reducing malpractice, reducing stress in the workplace, and reducing caregiver burnout


Course Formats Overview

  An Introduction to Malpractice: an eye-opening, practical exposure to the elements that contribute to malpractice.

  Build Relationships, Reduce Malpractice: a primer on the role of relationships in malpractice risk, and an applied workshop in which participants develop new skills in relationship building.

  Presenting Yourself Under Pressure: Giving a Deposition Learn effective approaches to a deposition that will allow you to present yourself well.

  Presenting Yourself Under Pressure: Testifying on the Witness Stand: learn powerful and effective approaches to testifying so you put your best foot forward.

     An Introduction to Malpractice: a one day course which gives you an energetic, engaging look at the various elements that contribute to bad outcomes and the initiation of malpractice. Lectures include:

  Build Relationships, Reduce Malpractice: an applied workshop in which participants role play and learn the typical pitfalls

  Presenting Yourself Under Pressure: Testifying on the Witness Stand: Dr. Argy will teach you how to comfortably manage your fear of "the unknown" through a duplication of the experience using proven, practical, hands-on techniques.
