Odysseus Argy, MD
Odysseus Argy, MD Dr. Argy is a board-certified general surgeon who holds an academic position at the Boston University School of Medicine, and has taught courses at Boston University's College of Communication. For the last ten years he has been a course co-director and speaker for Harvard Medical School's two-day risk management course, Liability for Medical and Surgical Practitioners. He has been a public speaker on a many topics to both general and medical audiences since 1980.
From November, 1995 to May, 1999, he was the host and moderator of a weekly, live, one hour health program, Doctors On Call, on WABU-TV 68, a commercial television station in Boston. Using these skills, he has created an education curriculum for surgical oral board preparation which has prepared over 2,800 surgeons to take their exams. In the last eight years, through Odyssey Health Communications, Inc., his exam candidates have scored over 91% on their boards, a statistically significant improvement over baseline with a p value of <0.001. Dr. Argy uses his television and board exam preparation experience to teach colleagues how to present themselves well in a wide variety of high-pressure situations, like giving a deposition, testifying on the witness stand, public speaking, and forming strong relationships with patients.
Dr. Argy has over a decade of expertise in applied interpersonal communication skills in multiple environments, including patient education, medical/-surgical education, and risk management. These skills are built on a foundation of over 25 years of clinical practice and teaching medicine. His experience includes four years as the host of Doctors on Call, a weekly commercial television program presenting health information to a general viewing audience, and extensive public speaking to general and medical audiences. He has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at Boston University’s College of Communication. In 1999, he created a highly successful surgical education company which uses innovative teaching techniques, including video assessment, to enhance organizational and presentation skills. These courses produce statistically significant improvements in surgery oral board exam performance, a singular feature not found in any other board exam preparation courses in any field.
