Course Director: Odysseus Argy, MD Dr. Argy is a board-certified general surgeon who holds an academic position at the Boston University School of Medicine, and has taught courses at Boston University's College of Communication. Since 1984, he has had extensive experience as a public speaker with both general and medical audiences -- this includes training more than 2,800 general surgeons in oral board examination techniques over the last 12 years.
From November, 1995 to May, 1999, he was the host and moderator of a weekly, live, one hour health program, Doctors On Call,on WABU-TV 68, a commercial television station in Boston. Dr. Argy honed his skills in presenting information effectively under tight time pressure -- a skill which is eminently applicable to the general surgery oral boards. (To see a QuickTime clip of Dr. Argy talking about flu vaccines on Doctors On Call, click here. This will take several seconds to download via cable modem. You can download the free QuickTime Player for Windows at www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html)
Using his television and public speaking skills, he has created an educational curriculum for surgical oral board preparation which has prepared over 2,800 surgeons to take their exams. In the last eight years, through Odyssey Health Communications, Inc., his exam candidates have scored over 91% on their boards, a statistically significant improvement over baseline with a p value of <0.001. (You can learn more about Odyssey's board exam preparation at www.Surgery-Board-Review.com.).
For nearly a decade he has been a course co-director and speaker for Harvard’s two day risk management courses, Liability Prevention for Physicians and Health Care Professionals, and Physicians and Health Care Professionals in Court: A Survival Guide.
By integrating all his experience with communications, risk management and presentation skills coaching, Dr. Argy is now offering medical risk management courses and training to meet the needs of health professionals and the patients they treat. Areas of training cover risk prevention and risk management, including how to form strong relationships with patients, how to give a deposition, and how to testify on the witness stand.
